Hello!
Thank you for your interest in the American Society of Civil Engineer’s STEM Saturday Concrete for Kids event! In 2023, we had over 125 students from the Southwest Virginia area join us at our Concrete for Kids event to get their hands dirty learning about civil and materials engineering. After a hiatus in 2024, we are excited to bring back our STEM event again this year!
Concrete for Kids is a STEM-based community program designed to reach out to local elementary through high school students in Southwest Virginia. Local engineering professionals and engineering students from Virginia Tech and VMI will be presenting age-appropriate information about civil and materials engineering, followed by a hands-on learning experience where participants will get their hands dirty mixing concrete. Participants will also get the opportunity to strength test pre-made concrete beams.
There will be a concrete themed Scavenger Hunt with prizes and lots of concrete products for students (and adults!) to see and touch!
Free $10 food vouchers to the Mountain Grille Food Truck along with 2 beverage tickets will be provided for each child that completes pre-registration. Beverage tickets can be used for both kid-friendly and age-appropriate adult beverage options.
